Cretan cooking with a view of the Libyan Sea
A family taverna in the village of Sellia, above Plakias. Dishes cooked fresh each day, meat from the charcoal spit, grilled fish and vegetables from our own garden.
Home cooking, the way it's done in the village
Panostrati is a small family taverna in Sellia. From the terrace you look out over the village, the little church on the rock and the sea at Plakias.
We cook Cretan dishes every day with local produce. The courgettes, tomatoes and greens come from our garden, the meat turns on a charcoal spit and the fish goes straight on the grill.
Today's board
Every day we write what we've cooked on the blackboard. Here is the board from a typical day:
Today we cooked
- Grilled sea bass
- Grilled sea bream
- Fish soup
- Chicken with herbs in wine sauce
- Moussaka
- Veal stifado with onions
- Rooster in tomato sauce
- Snails with cracked wheat in tomato sauce
- Aubergines stuffed with mince and béchamel
- Green beans in tomato sauce
- Briam: aubergines, potatoes and onions baked in tomato
- Penne with vegetables
The dishes change every day. Ask us what's cooking today, or give us a call before you come.
